Save or Splurge? (Wedding Edition)

 Weddings - they are romantic, emotionally riveting and memorable. But with so much that goes on behind the scenes - from having to pick out the perfect gown and suit to having to source for an alluring venue and various vendors - it can be an incredibly stressful affair as well.

Plus, given the volatility of today’s economic conditions, many couples are having a tough time deciding what items are worth splurging on, and what are not.

Well, we are here to share our opinions on areas where splurging can be worthwhile, and also areas where you should tighten the reins. However, do note that this decision can be fairly personal – so it is entirely up to you and your partner to decide on what your priorities are. Every couple spends their wedding budget differently – ask yourself what matters to you and settle for whatever makes you comfortable!

First Things First

Before deciding on what should take up a bigger slice of the budget pie, you first need to have a realistic budget in mind. Yes, setting up your budget should be one of your top priorities – and it should be done before you even start searching for vendors. Having a benchmark for your expenses will allow you and your partner to avoid acting on impulse. You don’t want to end up emptying your savings.

And unless you are a seasoned pro in wedding planning, most couples tend to underestimate the cost of a wedding. The costs can really add up quicker than you anticipate – and the last thing you want is to cut corners in your planning or compromise on important details. So go ahead, and start planning your budget.

Wedding Planner

If your dream is to have a wedding that is straight out of a fairytale, we will say splurge on this one. There is just so much that goes into coordinating this once-in-a-lifetime affair. A wedding planner can help you with your specific needs – they are there to bounce ideas off and help you realise the wedding of your dreams.  

However, if you are a more hands-on bride or groom, prefer being in charge of the entire process and have sufficient time to do so, then perhaps a wedding planner is not necessary.

Photographer

It is a splurge for us! Wedding photographers are there to capture your best moments. And given the lifelong significance that a photograph can hold, it may be worth it to call in the experts. 

Venue

Your venue sets the stage of the entire wedding – it has an impact on the type of decor you decide upon. There are many unique venues in Singapore you can choose from, so it all boils down to the wedding you are envisioning.

If we had to make a call, we’d say splurge but at the same time, avoid overpaying for one!

Catering

No celebrations are complete without quality food, right? Food is the way to anyone’s heart, so finding a great caterer should be a priority. It is definitely not worth skimping on this one!

Wedding Decor

 Decor can elevate the uniqueness and grandeur of your wedding venue. But great decor doesn’t have to be expensive – so this is something that you definitely can easily save on. Instead of purchasing those decor pieces, rent them instead! You will thank yourself for this later.

Wedding Flower Bouquet

Like wedding decor, you can save a fair bit on a flower bouquet – because who says a gorgeous arrangement has to come with an exorbitant price tag? Just be sure to find the right florist that respects your budget.
